Martin Luther und Katharina von Bora, above by Lucas Cranach the elder 1525 (Metropolitan Museum New York), below by an unknown vernacular painter c. 1720 (Stadtmuseum Kaufbeuren). Cranach in his vast workshop had Luther and Bora painted hundreds of times establishing the image of the reformator for centuries to last.
